United Healthcare coverage:
Due to numerous insurance restrictions, I only take United Healthcare. No other insurance plans are accepted. To read more about insurance limitations please read below. If you are wanting an appointment and will be using your United Healthcare benefit, please let me know when inquiring about therapy services. Please bare in mind that therapy is NOT guaranteed with medical insurance coverage, for most insurance plans to cover your therapy session fees you must meet what insurance companies call, "medical necessity." This means that you will also need to have a mental health diagnosis for your insurance to cover sessions.
Sliding Scale:
At this time sliding scale slots are full. If you are an active student, I do offer sliding scale student fees for those who are low income (available only for individual therapy as available). Sliding scale is reserved for those experiencing the most hardship.
If you are needing sliding scale fees and/or free counseling please refer to the resource page, click here.

Information about insurance:
It is the policy of my practice not to accept many insurance plans due to certain risks to you the client. For more information please read below:
DIAGNOSIS REQUIRED:
There are many limitations that are placed on your treatment when using health insurance, many insurance companies do not cover treatment for couples counseling, bereavement, or transitional life issues. They require that a person be diagnosed with a DSM V diagnosis, and while at times that is necessary, a DSM V diagnosis can at times affect you if you are applying for certain kinds of employment or going through certain kinds of background screening. A diagnosis follows you for life and will become part of your medical record, many people therefore prefer not to use their insurance coverage for this reason.
LOSS OF CONTROL OF YOUR TREATMENT:
The work between client and clinician is best guided when it is between the client and clinician, when using insurance, third parties become involved who have to approve your treatment. Control over your treatment is taken out of your hands and placed in the hands of third parties that you will never meet you. Another downfall to using your health insurance is that you lose agency over picking the therapist that you want, when working with your health insurance provider you must work with a therapist who is paneled with your health insurance. This means that is takes options away from working with a therapist that has certain specializations.
LOSS OF CONFIDENTIALITY:
It is important to know that because of the third party involvement from your insurance company your confidentiality can not be guaranteed due to the paperwork that is required by your insurance company which contains your private information. The paperwork containing your private information can pass through various hands before reaching it's destination which puts your confidentiality at stake.
POSSIBLE REJECTION FROM LIFE INSURANCE:
Certain life insurances will deny coverage to a person who has used their health coverage for treatment, that is because when using your health coverage for mental health treatment even if it for something like bereavement confidentiality is not guaranteed and it becomes part of your life long medical record, therefore life insurances can obtain this information. When paying fee for service for a therapist confidentiality is ensured against insurance companies.
